Evil girl scout fun!

And here's the "final" sketch for the chosen subject of commission #1. If approved, I'll ink it, erase the pencil and get with the watercolors. This is going to be a challenge because of all the details, but commission #1 deserves the best!

Also, since I'm working on these things, I need to finalize that bonus gocco print that goes with every order. At the moment, I believe I'm going to reuse my favorite sketch from the donation drive (I was given permission by its owner, Darc of Code Name: Hunter). Assuming I stick with the design below, that means I need to find a way to gain access to a photocopier, as my printmaking process needs the carbon that comes in the toner. Challenges!

Muffins... of DOOM! - Now in color!

I did it! I watercolored without screwing up terribly! I'm not sure my stroke quality is any good, and I can't stay in the lines to save my life - but those things are forgivable in watercolors, no? I declare victory anyway!

Watercolors are scary things, man, as one mistake could result in the entire piece getting scrapped. And I came close to that. As with all damning mistakes, this one came when I was 99% done with the piece. Everything was painting except for the "o" in "of", and that's when I decided to touch a spot in "doom." One hand slip later, I had a brown smudge across the "do." Fortunately, I was able to blot the paint enough to make it negligible.

Wish I could provide a better pic for you, but scanning faint colors seems to be the impossible task. I went to my good scanner, and everything light still came out as a pale cyan. Which really made Tiffany look weird.

Anyway, the next step in watercoloring is to double down on the difficulty and take on a new commission. Wish me luck, as this one will be a doozy.

I don't think watercolor test pieces are supposed to be this big (11"x17") or elaborate, but HERE WE GO! If I can pull this piece off, that means I can start taking commissions on watercolor pieces! Yay!

The time of gluttony is upon us!

As it we Americans needed an excuse for conspicuous consumption, it's Thanksgiving; a day in which we go through great lengths to avoid too much family interaction by eating ourselves into a coma and enjoying distracting football games. I don't knock it, mind you, as I am ALL ABOUT food and football! (And occasionally family!)

Thanksgiving is a kick ass holiday and I intend to enjoy it to its fullest! I will WIN Thanksgiving! Think you will be able to go back for leftovers? THINK AGAIN! You will leave me alone with the turkey and all those delicious turkey accessories, thank you very much. And I will be taking the center spot for football watching, even if I hate all the home teams with a passion. It is still coma background, and that is a vital component of Thanksgiving.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a post up on Thanksgiving (and possible Friday) as I won't have access to a scanner, and probably little time for my useless and unenlightening blogging anyway.

Give us the candy and no one gets hurt

One of the suggestions for the Halloween wallpaper was to have the kids rely on their supervillain identities. A villainous ploy to procure candy? Sounds about right!

Here we see Dr. Oven sorta playing Dr. Octopus with his many arms of doom-bringing. Just give him the candy, people. You have 30 seconds to comply.

I didn't get around to drawing the others, but I can see The Scarlet A wielding a super soaper (filled with who-knows-what) and Chaotic Butterfly... oh, man, I have no clue. All I know is Target Man (or mild-mannered Some Guy) must do all he can to keep them in line. (Or at least keep them out of the back of the police car.)

I'm probably not going to use this idea for the wallpaper, mainly because I'm planning on using something like this for the Halloween Copper Road. That reminds me, I need to get scripting on that!

Finished up the back to school strips today, which gives me a week backlog! This puts me father ahead than 90% of web cartoonists!

Next up is a few strips that revisit the supervillain idea. If all goes as planned, it'll be a nice bite-sized bit of enjoyment for new readers... which, at this point, is every reader I will have in the world save, like, two.

Before I sit down and draw the strips, which require a strong amount of competency to pull off, I've got to sketch a bit to see what costumes work. What you see here may or may not be the final outfits.

Behold: The Power of Whining!

I vent my frustrations, go back and finally get a half-decent sketch. This is the infamous Doctor Oven, Bud's supervillain identity. Not that good a drawing, but I'll take it. It's the first time I've tried to draw the full costume, so forgive some awkwardness. Instead of his black vest and white shirt, he now sports a white lab coat and black shirt. (I really should have used a reference for the lab coat.) This is also the first attempt at the chrome dome helmet - something that will be a complete bitch to draw in the small format of a comic strip. I want to use it, since I want one of Bud's quirks to be his constant use of hats, but this dream may die in practice.
