Cat blogging!

There are four cats in this house and all are adorable!

(OK, fine, I'm just testing a new blogging ap on the new iPhone.)

KITTIES! Awww, they're so cute! I love kitties. Dogs are nice, but they're loud and smelly at times. Cats, meanwhile, are soft and graceful.

On a side note, check out the third photo in this post - http://between-the-panels.blogspot.com/2011/11/its-studio-its-under-eaves.html - It may bring a smile.

Such gorgeous kitties! They seem to be well cared for too.

Nice kitties!
#1 Appears highly unimpressed with the new iPhone camera.

#2 Looks to be totally unsure about it.

#3 Is a gorgeous combination of calico and tabby! ...with perhaps just a touch of tuxedo.

#4 Says -you- should be the nervous one after this. ;-)

@Darc Sowers: I spy Pinkie Pie!
And, anyone who reads 'Precocious' will find the amusement in your 3rd picture! :-)
- In your "morgue", what books have you found the most useful for your cartooning art? (I can't read the titles in the picture.) Or did you learn most of your artistry in school? I am definitely not satisfied with the quality of my character drawing in Chrispy's FanArt forum thread. :-)

Thanks Chrispy & Darc!

@Iron Ed: I've been meaning to get those up on the wall for a while now. There's not much space in here due to the eaves. I still haven't found a place for the "Screw quality" print. :(

Twilight Sparkle's around there somewhere. She's usually on the desk, but I kept knocking her off while I worked.

I didn't go to college for art, so I'm currently running around trying to figure out how to do this whole drawing thing. Most of the morgue is made up of art books of creators whose work I admire - animators, comic creators, classical artist, stuff like that. I also love the Disney "Art of" books they put out for each movie. And the "Art of Avatar: the Last Airbender" book is fantastic.

Hmm, cartooning and anatomy specifically... Christopher Hart has a lot of books on cartooning which are good. Walter Foster also has a wide collection. They go from very toony to very realistic. I loved these as a kid. I wish I still had them.

I recently discovered "Figure Drawing For All It's Worth" by Andrew Loomis and it's amazing! Jack Hamm's "Drawing the Head and Figure" is another good one. I'd also recommend Wizard Magazine's "How to Draw: Heroic Anatomy" and "How to Draw: Character Creation", but they're a little hard to find now - I think they're out of print. The Terry Moore how to books I mentioned on my blog earlier are also excellent.

Studying people whose work you enjoy is helpful as well. Seeing how they draw things like hands, motion, and expressions can inspire you as you create your own style. Especially if they're willing to share their process. It's amazing what you can pick up from watching someone work.

But yeah, I'm still learning too. It's fun, but there's a lot to keep track of. I hope I was a little helpful. :D

That should be "Screw Equality" not "Screw quality". Me type pretty one day. ;P

I did see the post, Darc, and much smiling happened! I'm not worthy!

Nefaria - The kitties are in full control of the house, but I worry about them. I think all the work overwhelms the twits who have to care for them.

Ed - Listen to Darc! She knows far more than I do! Also, you're right about the black cat. You can't tell from the photo, but she's a giant one! She can - and will - end you on a whim.

Chrispy & Darc,
Thanks for the advice from both of you! I've gone over both your comments here, plus Chrispy's on Formspring and Darc's on your own sketch blog. (I wrote the question before fully exploring your site and realizing much of your archived blog has titled posts.)
Time for me to visit the used book stores around here. I've picked up a couple of painting books there before. (I like the Walter Foster books too.)
Hopefully folks will see improvements in my "fan art" in the future. :-)

The one on the bottom reminds me most of my cat. Dale is a Bombay breed and you'd never get a picture of him like that. If I were to take a photograph of him, all you would see is his muzzle. He would be sniffing the camera lens and probably licking it. He's also fairly loud and not always graceful (like when he wants me to get out of bed and feed him). He'll actually bang on the bedroom door until I get up!
